Education and Support Services for Mothers (up to age 26)

Women and girls up to age 26 who are pregnant and/or have children are eligible through CAPE services to receive prenatal, pregnancy, and parenting support and education depending on the mother’s and children’s needs. CAPE provides preventative education and responsive services to pregnant mothers, nursing mothers, and mothers with children entering middle and older childhood that allow the mother to gain independence as a caregiver. Parenting classes are available to mothers who are court-ordered to complete them at no cost to the mother.

C.A.P.E. partners with Lansing Area schools to provide educational seminars and practice opportunities that will promote various principles of safe social interactions, positive mental health treatment and acknowledgement, and evidence-based practices for preventing youth crime and bullying, and promoting mentalization among youth (understanding and acknowledging peer mental health). The focus on the in-school program is to educate students, faculty, and staff about the impact of youth violence in the community and certain means of aiding youth and their families through education and school support to influence positive mental health outcomes and greater academic success.

Specialized Substance Abuse Classes (SSAC) for 6th Grade up to 26 Years Old (once a month)

CAPE offers specialized substance abuse education sessions and resources for students and school faculty to share with their families on a regular basis. CAPE offers these classes on a monthly basis. Curriculum and supplemental materials are evidence-based. Assessments are not performed at school, only at CAPE. CAPE incentivizes classes per school, allowing schools to compete in friendly competition to provide the highest results in SSAC testing and comprehension, and attendance. Assisting in facilitating these classes are CAPE Community Agents, CAPE education staff, and community partners from the Greater Lansing Area.
